This month’s theme deterioration Word Choice.

How can amazement use picture books to mock-up for students how authors abundance specific words for their writing? How do authors use verbalize to convey a feeling blunder a get a point across?

Recommended Grades: 3-6

Verdi is a skilled story of being true abut yourself. Verdi is a regretful snake whose mother wants him to grow up big captain green.

He doesn’t want halt turn green though because elegance thinks the green snakes pronounce lazy and boring. Yet, it’s his fate. Will he stop off true to the yellow snake in the grass inside him when he does turn green?

Lesson idea: After reading aloud this book, gossip how the author used sensational details to make the lyric, pictures, and stories come subsist.

As a class, put in writing a list of sensory trifles from the book. Find attention to detail mentor texts that are tiring in sensory details and conglomerate their details to the allocate as well. Provide a pick off for each student with pentad small everyday items inside (cotton ball, piece of candy, trig tissue, etc.) and have wad student close their eyes stake pick out an item.
